Dr. Paul Maurer founded Keys Eye Care in 1999, moving to Key West after 5 years as one of the busiest eye surgeons in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area. Dr. Maurer's goal is to bring the highest quality medical and surgical eye care to the people of the keys.

Dr. Maurer attained highest honors in medical school at the University of Oklahoma and served his internship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, followed by a three year Ophthalmology residency at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans and at the Charity Hospital of Louisiana, during which he learned the latest techniques for small- incision eye surgery.

Dr. Maurer joined Aran Eye Associates in Miami in 1993, where he began performing no stitch/no patch cataract surgery and became board certified in Ophthalmology. In 1997, he became certified in laser vision correction on the VISX laser and has since performed thousands of LASIK procedures at Laser Eye Center of Miami, Visual Health in West Palm Beach and Millennium Laser Eye Center.

Dr. Maurer has also attended many continuing education courses for further training in eyelid plastic and cosmetic surgery, including the recent Botox, blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) and laser rejuvenation course sponsored by the University of California Medical Center and proctored by nationally recognized experts in the field.

Dr. Maurer has taught LASIK surgery to fellow ophthal­mologists and maintains certification on all VISX excimer lasers, including the latest generation Star S4 tracking laser and the CustomVue platform for individualized LASIK.
